Sometimes you wait so long for something that when it actually happens, it doesn’t feel real. That is how today feels. It is the day I get to let everyone know my novel is now available in hardcover and paperback!
In 2022, I started researching Elizabeth Garraux, an early settler of Greenville. It all began because of wondering about the origin of the names of two streets in our neighborhood: Elizabeth Street and Garraux Street. I quickly learned that the streets were named after a remarkable woman from the late 1800s with an amazing life story. She lived in the exact location where we now live.

As a passionate lover of American history, being able to weave the story of post-Civil War Reconstruction, early European immigration, the seeds of the women’s rights movement, and Greenville’s early growth around the true-life story of Elizabeth was an exciting and purely enjoyable process.
After nearly a year of research and many months of writing, it is hard to believe I can now hold Elizabeth’s story in my hands.
“When He Was Gone” is now available through Amazon at https://a.co/d/9YkF8j0. I will be negotiating with M. Judson bookstore in downtown Greenville to try to arrange a book signing. If you pass by the store, you might want to drop in and ask when they will have the book in stock. (wink, wink.)
I have had so much support during the painfully long process of writing and publishing that the list of those to whom I am thankful could go on for pages. Thank you to each and every one who encouraged me in the process.
Most of all, I am thankful to a tiny indomitable woman whose whispers from the past taught me so much, and who gave me the opportunity to fulfill a life-long dream.
